Wooden Ships Comments  on the John Negus bermudan ketch

John Negus bermudan ketch designed and built in 1997 by John Negus in Essex to his own design.  He has so far built a number of these yachts to a similar design and they have proved themselves as comfortable cruising boats which have ventured far and wide.  John Negus comes from a back ground of building working boats so his yachts are constructed with the same massive scantlings and enormous strength one would expect to see in a fishing boat.

Strip plank construction with his own form of Speed strip where by the concave and convex profiles are slightly different so as to allow a fillet of glue to remain in the seam.

The commissioning owner cruised her to Norway and around the Scottish Isles until 2004 when the present owners took her on.  Since then she has been continually upgraded and fettled so that she is now an ideal cruising yacht with all the systems, space and comforts one could want.

The layout lends itself ideally to long distance sailing or live aboard with an inside and outside helm position, sheltered wheelhouse, fore and aft sleeping cabins and lots of communal living space.  The ketch rig is easily handled with a multitude of Lewmar winches and good quality roller furling systems on the headsails.

Complete and extensive refit list available dating back to 2004.  This is a very smart and extremely well equipped yacht with masses of volume and is absolutely ready to go.
