Wooden Ships Comments on this Holman Rummer Yawl

Kim Holman Rummer Yawl built by Whisstocks of Woodbridge in 1959.

The Rummer was a highly regarded design from a man who rarely got anything wrong with his yachts.  At the time she was quite revolutionary on the UK yachting scene as her inspiration came from the American designers who Kim Holman had been closely monitoring.  In comparison to yachts from other well known UK designers she was shallow draft, quite wide in the beam and with short overhangs, plus her low aspect rig  looked to have a lot less power than the taller rigs from the likes of Clark and Buchanan.  The result however astonished many people and the first Rummer very nearly beat Vashti in her first season.  The Rummer is stiff and weatherly, comfortable at sea and easily handled, everything that is required in a sensible cruising boat.

In present ownership for over 30 years, she has been very well maintained and cruised around the Scottish west coast.  Upgraded with some modern navigation equipment, recent sails and a good engine, she is a shining example of the rarely seen Rummer yawl and a superb family cruising boat.
