Wooden Ships Comments

The Golant Gaffer was designed by Robert Dongray as an easy to handle but capable small gaffer that could be built either at a professional yard or by a keen amateur.  This particular boat was built by David Williams and launched in 2001.  Finished to a high standard she is very well equipped and kitted out for coastal cruising.

Although only 19′ these boats are known for their sea keeping ability and are very capable coastal cruisers.  This one has a self draining cockpit making her safer for open water sailing.  With a full length keel and hefty ballast ratio they will stand up to their canvas and behave like a proper boat should at sea.  She has cruised the south coast extensively and finished 6th in class in the Round the Island Race.

The big benefit is that they are light enough to tow behind a 4WD vehicle and this boat comes with a double axle road trailer.  Because of the rig set up it is possible for a couple of people to lower the whole rig without the need for a crane and she can be towed and stored in any location, potentially helping to hugely reducing the cost of your boating.  She also comes with a full winter cover, new in 2014, to protect her from the elements.

Having a trailer offers great flexibility with this boat, however without the right slipway she will need the assistance of a crane to get in and out of the water.

A very nice example of the popular Golant Gaffer, recently antifouled and ready to go.  2014 survey available.
