Glen class sloop designed by Alfred Mylne and built in Bangor, N. Ireland sometime after WWII.
The Glen class is a popular one design fleet around Strangford Lough and Dublin Bay, and although there are not as many boats racing now there is still a healthy regular fleet on the start line with 25 boats in total.
This boat was found by the current owner in a very neglected state at the back of a boat yard and taken on as a hobby project in 1998. The work was done by the owner with the help of a local shipwright when required and constant professional advice. The deck was replaced entirely, ballast keel removed, all centreline bolts replaced and the hull repaired where necessary before being sheathed in a lightweight cloth to give an excellent and low maintenance finish.
Since she was launched in 2016 the boat has only been used a handful of times and is currently stored undercover and will be found very well presented in excellent condition. There is very little to do before she is ready to sail this summer and the boat can be towed away on her own immaculate road trailer which makes her a flexible and affordable sailing yacht.

Construction
Carvel planked in mahogany, stainless screw fastened (new in the refit) to Rock Elm frames, six of which were replaced in steam bent oak timbers.
During the rebuild, the seams were splined, the hull faired and she was sheathed with a lightweight epoxy glass cloth which runs under the ballast keel to secure the join of the cloth and not leave exposed edges.
Sawn oak floors across the centreline fastened with new stainless steel throat bolts.
External iron ballast keel, removed, cleaned and painted then refitted with new galvanised steel keel bolts.
Yacht laid teak deck glued over a marine plywood subdeck, all new in the rebuild. All new oak deck beams and carlins. Varnished teak toe rails and rubbing strakes with small stanchions and a guard wire all round.
Original coachroof with varnished mahogany coamings and a sheathed plywood coachroof deck. Coamings extend forward either side of the varnished mahogany forehatch.
Non self draining cockpit with laid teak thwarts lifting to access lockers beneath. Cockpit lockers were rebuilt in the refit.
Tiller steering with the rudder held on the back on the stern post. All new galvanised steel pintles and rudder stock.
Rig
Fractional bermudan sloop rig on a keel stepped alloy mast with a varnished roller reefing wooden boom.
Heavily rigged with stainless steel standing rigging to new internal stainless chain plates. Twin lower shrouds and an intermediate stay over the spreaders with jumper struts supporting the upper section of the mast. Single standing back stay and running backstays.
Pair of Tuffnell snubbing winches on the cockpit coamings.
Mainsail and headsail in useable condition, they are suitable for local cruising but not for racing.
Accommodation
Simple interior with 2 settee berths over 6′ in length and sitting headroom below the coachroof.
Aft of the berths is a simple bit of joinery either side giving flat work surface and stowage space for chart work and a portable gas stove.
Nicely finished below decks with new upholstery and a mix of varnished mahogany and cherry wood.
Ample stowage space forward for sails, fenders and warps.
