Wooden Ships Comments on this Danish Fishing vessel

Sold by Wooden Ships to the present owners more than 20 years ago, she has been used mainly as a country cottage in that time after a very comfortable interior was fitted to the boat.  The present owners also employed a professional yard to lay a new deck and replace any hull planking and framing as necessary.

Although she looks rough on the outside, this is a good solid boat and more importantly is a mobile and going concern, meaning she can be steamed away and used immediately, unlike many of her peers who require large amounts of work before being lived on or taken to sea.

Typical Danish lines with a very full underwater profile giving her a lot of interior volume, bluff bows and a sweeping sheer up to the elegant elliptical counter, a trademark feature of Danish fishing boats.  This is a graceful vessel and when rigged will be an impressive sight.

Construction

Hull

Built by Jnsen and Lauritsen of Esbjerg in 1933.  3” oak planking fastened to 6” x 6” grown oak frames.  Approximately 50% of planking and framing has been replaced in present ownership and the underwater hull has been checked periodically by qualified shipwrights.  Small amount of re-planking done in 2008.

Decks and cockpit

Straight laid 2.25” Iroko deck, screw fastened to new deck beams.  Caulked and payed with Butyl rubber.  Deck new in approximately 15 years ago.

Slightly raised aft deck helps with visibility from the helm position and also increases head room in the aft cabin which is often a problem with these boats.

Bulwarks all round on stanchions through the coverboard.   Much of the bulwark planking was replaced in 2014.

Superstructure

Solid Iroko deck house, built new in the last 15 years.  The deck house has been built to a high quality and provides a lot of space at deck level with good visibility.  The galley, chart space and an internal helm position are all located here in the deck house.

Varnished teak hatch on the aft deck give access to the aft cabin.  Skylight forward over the main cabin provides emergency access and light.

Rig

Keel stepped masts ready for a gaff ketch rig.  Bowsprit, booms and yards on the boat but the rig is not complete.  Chainplates are all fitted.

Machinery

Engine

Hundested 2 cylinder 2 stroke 200hp diesel installed new in 1972.

In 1993/4 the engine was stripped, big end bearings re-metalled, small end replaced entirely, pistons stripped and refitted with new rings and new cylinder head gaskets.  The whole engine was then carefully shot blasted and painted.

Air start system with a back up portable air compressor if the recharge system fails.

Manual engine controls however the kit for changing over to electric control is with the boat but not fitted.

This is a continuous running engine with a clutch and no gearbox.  Instead there is a Hundested variable pitch propeller controlled with a wheel at the helm.  This allows for ahead and astern propulsion, as well as a neutral position, by changing the angle of the blades.

12.5kva generator driven by a 3cyl Perkins diesel.  Also drives hydraulic pump for the windlass.

Tanks

2 x 1300l galvanised steel tanks, one either side in the engine room under the deck head.  Installed new approx 1996.

1300l galvanised water tank under the cabin sole forward

1300l galvanised waste tank under the cabin sole forward

Batteries

2 x domestic battery banks, 1100ah at 24v, charged from generator driven alternators.

2 x 2.5kva inverter/chargers either charge batteries when generator is running or provide 240v when it is not.

Accommodation

Berths

6 berths in total.  Large forward cabin with a double, aft cabin with two singles and two pilot berths in the saloon.

Saloon

Large saloon in the centre of the boat with 13kw Reflex diesel fired heating.   A large pilot berth each side under the deck head and plenty of open space with uncompromised headroom.  Elegant curved staircase in the port aft corner provides access from the deck saloon.

Heads

Ensuite heads in the forward cabin.  Shower compartment and separate heads compartment with a bath.  Heads are compressed air type which are relatively trouble free.

Galley

Located in the deck house, decent sized galley with fridge/freezer and electric oven and hob.
