Wooden Ships Comments on this 35′ Buchanan Bonito Bermudan Sloop

Buchanan Bonito class yacht designed by Alan Buchanan and built by Weatherhead and Blackie of Port Seton in 1960.

The Bonito was a popular design and many were produced in GRP when that material started to be used more widely.  The design is interesting because the point of greatest beam is relatively far aft compared to many yacht designs of the time which created a wide and spacious cockpit with a lot of space in the saloon.  The fore peak loses out slightly on space but berths are created here using pipe cots which allows dual purpose use of the space.

This boat has been in a long and careful ownership which has seen maintenance carried out every year and major tasks tackled when necessary.  A new deck was laid in 1995 and a new Beta diesel was installed in 2007.  She has proved to be a very comfortable and safe family cruising yacht with a large cockpit and an easily handled rig.  Unfortunately progressing years have forced the sale but she will be maintained as well as can be until a new owner takes her on.
