Wooden ships comments on this 18′ Bermudan cutter
Ponsharden Shipyard, Falmouth
Delightful shape to this lovely little yacht, straight stem with a slightly raked transom and a perfect sheer line. Deep draft for her length with a full bilge amidships and a steady run going aft making her slippery and fast yet able to stand up to her canvas.
Planked in 7/8” pitch pine copper fastened to large sawn oak frames with 2 steamed intermediate timbers. Rivet fastened to the steamed timbers with turned clench nails on the sawn frames.
Iron strap floors across the sawn frames with external 1 ton lead ballast keel and bronze keel bolts.
Original solid laid teak deck now covered with Treadmaster non slip coating. Varnished teak coamings on the well proportioned coachroof with 2 bronze portholes each side and plywood coachroof deck also covered with Treadmaster.
Large bitts on the surprisingly spacious foredeck to take the heel of the bowsprit. Varnished teak toe rail runs all round which gives an important and steady foothold when moving around the deck. Deep cockpit with thwarts either side that fold up to give more space, tiller steering with transom hung rudder.
Fractional Bermudan cutter rig on a deck stepped solid spruce mast, new in 2002. Mast is in a galvanised tabernacle.
Slab reefing varnished spruce boom with stainless steel gooseneck fitting. Varnished bowsprit.
Stainless steel standing rigging with twin lowers, single cap shroud, running back stays and an adjustable standing backstay to the stainless steel bumpkin.
Mainsail, jib and staysail in cream terylene by Quay Sails of Poole. Also has a spinnaker, cruising chute, storm trysail and mainsail cover.
Dolphin 12hp 2 stroke petrol engine with a centrifugal clutch and direct drive. Engine has been well maintained with a top end rebuild recently.
Stainless steel shaft with 2 blade bronze propeller.
Small but very useable cabin space with a full length settee berth to starboard and an area to port which has been designed as a chart desk and galley.
Forward of this is a pipe cot to port with enough room under for stowage of sails.
2 fire extinguishers
1 manual and 1 electric bilge pump
Anchor, chain and warp
2 solar panels
Super little yacht which will be a real head turner anywhere she goes. 2011 survey available, ready to go.
