Wooden ships comments on this Fairey Faun launch

The Fairey Faun was launched in 1959 and this is hull No.3.  the design was a little different from the usual high speed power boats that Fairey were known for, but they put their design and construction know how to good use with this launch to produce a stable, high volume boat that is easily driven and is strong and lightweight.

Much work has been done in present ownership since purchase in 2006 including replacement of any soft plywood in the deck, some repairs to the hull and overhaul of the engine.

Hull is constructed of three diagonal lamination’s of hot moulded mahogany which is the method for which Fairey had become very well known.  This gives a very strong and lightweight hull compared to traditional plank on frame construction.

The underwater hull has been gel coated.

Mahogany coamings all round leave narrow side decks with an aft deck and foredeck to give a sheltered space forward for stowage.

Full length thwarts port and starboard with a centre thwart just aft of the engine box.

Morris Vedette 850cc side valve petrol engine fitted from new with a stainless shaft to a 3 blade bronze propellor.

Transom hung rudder with cables to wheel steering mounted on the port gunnel.

Fairey Faun launch

This is an interesting launch, rarely found in UK these days and ready to go for the summer.
